Parent/Child Advocacy
Having a child with special needs is often overwhelming. Making sure the have the services that match their individual needs is a daunting task.
Our parent/child advocates provide individualized case advocacy for children in the special education and mental health systems within Berks County. We strive to actively educate parents on the rights and needs of their children to help them become effective advocates.

provide information on disabilities and the services available to
children and families

services for their child(ren)
-
educate parents on special education laws and regulations
-
review and explain Individualized Education Plans (IEP), 504
Plans, and other educational documents

as IEPs) to effectively advocate for appropriate services
-
guide parents through obtaining Medical Assistance, SSI,
wraparound, and community mental health services.
Where should I start?
What is an IEP?
Can the school suspend my child who is in special education?
What if my child's school says she/he doesn't qualify for services?
My child's school says my child needs a TSS or can't come to
school...can they do that?
Our parent/child advocates hear these and many more questions everyday. We are here to help you understand, no matter where in the process you are, what your child is entitled to and what your legal rights are. Call us today to set up an appointment or see how we can help.
Please note that we require at least one weeks notice to attend meetings with a school and/or agency. This time allows us to obtain your child's records and review them to better understand how to help you solve your specific problem. If you do call us last minute, we will try and accommodate you, however, we can not guarantee our availability or effectiveness. Most likely, we will require another meeting.
